On 15 September 2016, the Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy (NIMD), International IDEA and the Berghof Foundation organized an expert meeting on working in fragile and conflict-affected settings (FCAS). FCAS settings are extremely polarized and divided due to a lack of trust among political actors.
Yet, political parties are important players in these settings. Why is this focus on political parties necessary? And how can donors and policymakers engage political parties in these settings to enhance peacebuilding and democracy support?
The expert meeting aims to identify strategies to effectively work with political actors in fragile settings. Along with keynote speeches from academics and members of the donor community, practitioners in NIMD’s network will also provide their insights on working in these settings.
